DJ food stamp has been cutting up, scratching, and collecting records for almost 30 years, and 20 years here in Eugene. With an emphasis in hip hop music and DJ styles, he incorporates a party-rocking ethos weaving together rap, funk, soul, disco, rock and anything funky. In the early 2000s he was the in-house mixtape DJ for UGHH.com releasing over 75 mixtapes through the company, with some pressed over 50,000 copies, receiving worldwide distribution and collaborating with artists like MF DOOM, Slug of Atmosphere, Sean Price, Common, etc.
He has won more than five Eugene Weekly “Best DJ” awards over the years of party rocking in the 541, and, in 2016, he published the book Hip Hop DJs and the Evolution of Technology. He has held a rap and beats night every Friday for 14 years at Level Up Arcade, holds a monthly all-vinyl gig at PLAY Eugene, and has a vinyl hip hop and rare groove mixshow called 1000 Old Records every Monday on 88.1 KWVA at 10pm. food stamp also organizes the bi-annual TOP SCORE Record & Vintage Toy Show, and through his job teaching film and music at UO he puts together the UO Hip Hop Jam to expose students to authentic hip hop dance, art, and music (13 years strong). A dedicated dad, bee and chicken farmer, 3 wheeler rider, UO faculty and a wearer of many hats, hip hop DJ style remains at the core of everything he does (even when farmin’).
