Annual March Madness IPA Blind Taste-Off Challenge

Each year, the teams at beergarden and PublicHouse duke it out to see who drafted the best IPA. This year’s event will feature all West Coast IPAs. The Beer Teams choose the beers. Your vote decides the favorite.

The 3 week event features 2 blind flights of four: 1 flight at beergarden and 1 at PublicHouse, comprising the Sweet 8 IPAs. Each flight will have 4 IPAs. You’ll have two weeks to taste both flights and cast your vote for the tastiest brew in a blind taste off from March 17th through the 31st.

The Final 4 will take place April 1st- 7th. The favorite two IPAs from each flight will move on to the final 4. You’ll have that final week to try the final flight at either of the pubs and cast your vote. The votes will be tallied to reveal the winner on Wednesday, April 8..

In addition to the fun of it, each time you complete a flight … you have an opportunity to win one of 2 raffle packages. Try all 3 flights, and you’ll have 3 chances to win excellent prizes including gift certificates to the pubs, food purveyors and merch from participating breweries.

Robert Bohall, Nathan Juarez and David Rogers play a program of Jazz, Brazilian Choro and Baroque music on guitar, keyboard and percussion. The Choro tradition began in Brazil in the late 19th century. South America, being as much a cultural melting pot as North America, blended music of numerous cultures. The Choro repertoire mixes European, African and Native South American music into a fun, vibrant and danceable mix. European Baroque music always featured improvisation and ornamentation as necessary elements. The trio will also play a wide variety of jazz pieces.

Lucky Paws Rescue is an organization created by animal lovers and advocates to rescue animals in danger of euthanasia, and to save their lives. They focus on having them spayed / neutered, vaccinated, treated and placed in foster homes until they each meet their forever family!

The Lucky Paws crew will be bringing some adoptable friends to our Courtyard for the afternoon, and you’ll have the unique opportunity to come hang out and possibly bring one of them home to join your family.

We’ll be donating $1.00 for every beverage sold to support this amazing organization, and… EVERY pet that is adopted will take home a PublicHouse toy.

MUSE, Volume 4: A Celebration of Women at PublicHouse & beergarden

What does it mean to be called a ‘Muse”?
As a noun, it means a person — especially a woman — who is a source of artistic inspiration. It seems like the perfect word to encompass this Annual Celebration of Women.

March 8 has been recognized as International Women’s Day since the early 1900’s. International Women's Day celebrates women's achievements in the workplace, and we’ve teamed up with beergarden to amplify and acknowledge the inspirational women in our lives, behind our pubs, creating our beer & spirits, feeding us and… performing on our stage.

Live Musical Performances: Prior to 1900 and even after, it was expected that women would perform music, not make music. Singing was something of an acceptable pastime for a girl, but playing an instrument….?! Writing songs? Producing records? It wasn’t a thing and, for the most part, women didn’t think of themselves as creators of music. So much has changed. So much will continue to change. Both pubs will be showcasing women-led performances and events throughout the four days, including:

  • Thursday, March 5: beergarden Live Music with Connectarine, 7pm

  • Friday, March 6: PublicHouse Live Music with Complicated, 7pm

  • Saturday, March 7: beergarden Live Music with Maya Vagner, 6pm and Acoustic Minds, 7:30pm

  • Sunday, March 8: PublicHouse Paint N Sip with Sierra, 12-2pm

  • Sunday, March 8: PublicHouse Live Music with Pants with Pockets, 3:30pm

From the BeerHall: We’ll be featuring a handful of beers we have on draft from women-led brew teams, including:

  • UPP Liquids’ (Tonya Cornett, lead brewer)

    • Pre Glow Kolsch

    • Blood Orange IPA

    • Yuzu & Ginger Tart Ale

  • Grand Fir’s (Whitney Burnside, head brewer / owner)

    • Ponga IPA, west coast IPA

    • Summerfield Wheat Beer

    • Pale Rider Italian Pilsner

  • Wayfinder’s (Natalie Rose Baldwin, head brewer)

    • No Gods, No Masters Lager

    • Mourning Rituals Dry Irish Stout

    • Flower in the Kettle Hazy IPA

  • Calapooia’s Turkish Coffee Stout (Danielle Raiche, head brewer & Caitlin Prueitt, co-owner)

  • Heater Allen’s Pilsner (Lisa Allen, head brewer)
