MUSE, Volume 3: A Celebration of Women in Music

MUSE, Volume 3: A Celebration of Women in Music

What does it mean to be called a ‘Muse”?
As a noun, it means a person — especially a woman — who is a source of artistic inspiration. It seems like the perfect word to encompass this Annual Celebration of Women.

March 8 has been recognized as International Women’s Day since the early 1900’s. International Women's Day celebrates women's achievements in the workplace, and we’ve teamed up with beergarden to amplify and acknowledge the inspirational women in our lives, behind our pubs, creating our beer & spirits, feeding us and… performing on our stage.

Live Musical Performances: Prior to 1900 and even after, it was expected that "women would perform music, not make music.” Singing was something of an acceptable pastime for a girl, but playing an instrument….?! Writing songs? Producing records? It wasn’t a thing and, for the most part, women didn’t think of themselves as creators of music. So much has changed. So much will continue to change. Both pubs will be showcasing women-led performances and events throughout the five days, including:

From the BeerHall: We’ll be featuring a handful of beers we have on draft from women-led brew teams, including:

  • Grand Fir Crooked Tree IPA

  • Heater Allen Pilsner

  • Wayfinder BeYOB

  • Wayfinder Crow Show

  • Wayfinder Third Kind

PublicHouse Celebrates Truffles: February 24-28, 2025

Truffles… maybe you’ve heard of them! Truffles are a form of fungus that grow underground with tree roots. Oregon is home to 4 native truffle species, and they are widely celebrated in February because it's the traditional time for the truffle harvest season. Truffle Harvesting is usually during the rainier months in Oregon, and the climate in the Valley is ideal for growing truffles because of the cool temperatures, steady rainfall and shady forests. As a matter of fact, in 2024, thanks for the dedication of The Oregon Truffle Festival, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek designated February as Oregon Truffle Month.

The Oregon Truffle Festival (OTF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and one of the country’s most esteemed culinary events. Devoted to Oregon’s native truffles and the burgeoning cultivation of European truffles in the state, the festival has been featured in Departures, the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The New York Times, Saveur, and National Geographic, among others. In 2020, OTF was voted the #5 Specialty Food Festival in the country by readers of USA Today. (oregontrufflefestival.org)

Truffles are a sought-after ingredient for chefs, and the chefs at PublicHouse have requested an event that is truffle-centric! This is the VERY REASON why we’ve decided to make it a celebration! Truffles are a versatile ingredient that can be used in many ways, including: Truffle cheese and charcuterie plates, Truffle bread, Truffle butter, Truffle-inspired dishes, and even Truffle stouts.

FOOD: Each kitchen at PublicHouse is going to feature truffles throughout the week, and we are chompin’ at the bit to find out what dishes they will be preparing. AND— as an added bonus, you’ll receive a raffle ticket with each truffle dish you try. Hand the tickets into the bartender to be entered into the Truffle 25 Raffle. Stay tuned for all of the tasty creations you can expect, but here is just a bite:

BEVERAGES: The BeerHall and Whiskey Lab crews are planning a couple of drink specials as well so make sure to check out their offerings and recommendations for truffle beverage pairings.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT: If you’re planning your truffle trip during one of the evenings of this event, don’t miss out on the events & entertainment featured on the back Lawn, including:

Events are all-ages and free for anyone to join.

Rootdown... live on the lawn for Summerfest 2025

On the first day of summer in 2007, Rootdown was formed in the college town Eugene, Oregon.  Combining the sunny sounds of reggae, with a splash of alternative rock and hip-hop the band independently released three EPs and one full-length album.

We love it when these guys perform on our stage, and they couldn’t be a more perfect fit for the final day of Summerfest 2025.

The Ganja Marines... live on the lawn for Summerfest 2025

It couldn’t be a Summerfest without Reggae, and we are stoked to have The Ganja Marines on our stage for their first time.

The Ganja Marines are an interdisciplinary, intergenerational, inter-genre rhythm band specializing in Reggae and Afro-Funk; musical transmission of a deeply-rooted revolutionary history. Elements of Rock and Jazz music often duly find their way into their live sound. Over the dynamic beats of their roots rhythm section led by Randy Ross of People’s Choice, frontman Drumson walks the line between an electric performance and extemporaneous musical storytelling. Soundscapes and rhythmic meditations take the listener on a global sojourn while heavy-hitting delivery and high-caliber musicianship get the people on their feet and in motion.

Rudolf Korv and the NorthWest Feels live on the lawn for Winterfest 2024

For Eugene-based singer-songwriter, Rudolf Korv, it’s about honoring the journey, while never losing sight of where he’s been. It’s about listening to the small voice that guides us along the way, whether it comes from somewhere deep inside, or someplace high above.

The music Korv plays can only be described as Americana.  Like a lot of teenagers in the `90s, Korv grew up listening to Pearl Jam and Nirvana, and you can hear a bit of Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder in Korv’s sonorous growl, “but when I would write, it would come out way more tender,” Korv remembers.

“I don’t even know where that came from. It wasn’t stuff that I would even listen to. Growing up and getting older, you find this genre of Americana, which is kind of like this mutt of music of all different kinds. That where I really found a home,” he says.
